Cheap 'Fragrant' Oils Vs Organic Essential Oils

by Laura Klein

Many years ago, before I had learned the benefits of using pure essential oils for daily wellbeing, I would often see a shelf of "cheap oils" in the local dollar store.  They were only $2 a bottle.  What a bargain, I thought!

Why would anyone pay $20 or more for a bottle of oil?

Now I get it!

Comparing quality, organic, 100% pure essential oils with cheap, fragrant oils is like comparing apples and oranges.

Actually, more like comparing apples and petrol.

Cheap, fragrant oils are a synthetic, chemical compound, manufactured to mirror the smell like a plant, but they contain little or no actual plant material and offer no health benefits.  In fact, they can induce a severe allergic reaction. They are mass produced at a very low cost, and many consumers are unaware of their synthetic composition.

They might smell 'nice', but you don't want your family breathing in this chemcial fragrance.

By contrast, 100% pure essential oils are the distilled, volatile aromatic constituents of the plant that are highly concentrated.

That is the reason they are more expensive -  it can take 9kg of an organic lavender plant to make a 10ml bottle of lavender essential oil.

Just one drop of essential oil is equivalent to 15-40 cups of medicinal tea.

Diffused essential oils can be safe and very effective to support the health and well-being of children and adults - when used correctly and in the right dilution!

Our 100% pure Organic Essential Oils are made by Lively Living in Melbourne. They are "Certified Organic" (Cert Number 310). They are recommended for use in the Lively Living Range of Cool Mist Ultrasonic Vaporisers, including the Aroma Bloom and Aroma Breeze.

So, how can you use pure essential oils with your family?

For newborns to 3 months of age, we recommend diffusing plain tap water only. This is not meant to alarm parents, it's just that a newborn's skin and respiratory system is so new and they are getting used to the world around them. So we may not be aware of any allergies or sensitivities to any material or substance - including essential oils, body lotions, creams, soaps, sunscreen etc. You can read more about Newborns and Essential Oils on this blog.

For babies 3 months+ and older children, the general dilution is 1-3 drops per 200ml of water.  Then 3-5 drops for adults, per 200ml.

Each essential oil can offer different and wonderful health benefits.

Daily use of pure essential oils via our ultrasonic vaporiser can support good health and good sleep for your whole family.  It's a simple family ritual to set up the diffuser and add some essential oils, and one that we would recommend 365 days and nights a year, in sickness and in health.
